When planning to install garden light many people skip on the idea of using recessed lights. Recessed can lights are a great way to illuminate every part of your backyard, from the deck and patio all the way to the garden. In this post I want to offer some ideas for using this style of light fixture outdoors to spark some inspiration for your new lighting plan.
Common sense warning: Recessed lights that are used outdoors have to be designed for outdoor use! These are sealed much differently than the type that are used indoors. Also, these lights generate heat and will warm the soil around them, this may be good for some plants but very damaging to others.
The most common use for recessed lights is in the ground around plants and trees that you want to show off. Tall palm trees look great at night with a light shining directly up them. This logic can also be applied to fountains, statues, gnomes, flamingos, or whatever else you have in your backyard.
A more creative way to install recessed lights is in the floor of your deck. This is one of the easier ways to beef up the lighting in your yard if you are able to crawl underneath your deck to get it wired up. Lining the steps that lead up and down your deck is a good way to add light and increase safety at night.
Any pathways or pool decks that you might have will look great if they’re outlined with a series of recessed lights. This is another fairly easy installation since the wires are buried in the ground. Just remember that you’re going to have to tear up some of your landscaping to get this installed!
These three ways to add recessed lighting to your already amazing outdoor garden lights are definitely not the only ways to do so. I just wanted to get your brain’s gears turning to figure out the best ways to incorporate them into your yard!
