The Importance of Clean Gutters on a Felt Roof House

Having gutters on a house is beneficial in so many ways. Unwanted puddles don’t form in inconvenient places, rubble doesn’t get dispersed throughout the yard, and so the overall neatness of the house in enhanced. The only thing about gutters that has to constantly be considered is keeping them clean. Dead leaves and other debris will clog up the flow and cause the gutters to be pointless in a way. For homes that have a felt roof the reasons for keeping gutters clean is even more involved. The material it’s composed of can create a mess and the pitch of the roof has a lot to do with it as well.

Felt roofs are full of coarsely ground slate and these small particles get washed away at times with the rain. Because of its weight, the slate bits don’t continue to travel down the gutter. If the substance is allowed to collect, it will clog up the gutter system and cause the rain and any debris to fall off any point of the roof that it can. It is a good thing if the sewer system isn’t polluted with these pieces of slate, but at the same time, the gutter system is compromised. This is a great reason to keep them cleaned out regularly with a great set of gutter cleaning tools including a great gutter cleaning brush.

Most felt roofs are actually flat and this can cause puddles to form if the gutters don’t allow for drainage. The water will collect and if it sits for too long, the construction of the building can be severely damaged. Leaks can occur and then there are bigger problems at hand. This adds more work and money to the mix so it definitely should be avoided. The material that washed off of felt roofs can easily be cleaned with a variety of tools by simply scooping and disposing.  Proper gutter cleaning is essential as this will keep the gutters free and clear and able to do their job properly.
