The Incredibly Useful Outdoor Lighting Lantern

An outdoor lighting lantern is one of the best, most cost-effective ways to add a little light and decoration to any property.  They are available in any number of different sizes, shapes, and styles, so no matter your house size, you will most likely be able to find one that fits in with the style of your home and the mood you want to set outside.  On top of this, with the recent explosion in solar garden lights, there are a lot of really good options for solar lanterns that you won’t ever have to plug in or run a cord for.  Here are a few different uses for outdoor lanterns.

Use Them for Patio or Deck Lighting

Lanterns are great because they cast a large amount of diffuse light over a large area, so you don’t need to install a lot of different lights.  This won’t work very well for most garden lighting schemes, but it works very well in areas where people gather and you’ll need a lot of functional light.  Decks and patios are two examples of this.  Try placing some lanterns on the railings that line your deck or under outdoor patio covers to outline it and provide light.  You can also place some lanterns as wall lights on your home to help light up your patio as well.  Don’t forget to match the type of light fixture to the type of house you have to create a cohesive environment.

Path Lighting

Outdoor lantern light also works very well for path lighting, especially in highly trafficked areas.  You’ll be able to cast a circle of light where you or anyone that visits your house will need it the most.  Try putting lanterns on the biggest path on your property, your driveway.  Place a light or two at the end of the driveway to make your house look more inviting and also to help other drivers see any cars that are backing up out of your driveway.  You’re making your house more beautiful and safer at the same time!

Wall Lighting

Lanterns also work great as an alternative to the ubiquitous wall scones that many people place on their houses.  Try placing the lanterns around your door.  This will make your door stand out in the night, once again making it your home more visually appealing, but by also making your entrance brightly lit, you’ll be deterring potential thieves as well and you’ll be better able to see anyone that comes to your door at night.

These are but a few ways you can use outdoor lighting lanterns to add a little decoration to your property.  Try installing them anywhere you need a large amount of soft light.  Just remember to match the style of lanterns with the other light fixtures and architectural styles around your home.
