Choosing Fruit Netting

If you set out to have a garden with preferably a few berry bushes and fruit trees then you might have already noticed that many fruits fall prey to birds of different kinds. This can be easily avoided by easy to install and cheap to buy fruit netting.

Owners of big and frequented buildings already use the technology to keep unwanted visitors at bay and as far from their premises as possible. Airplane hangars, train stations and government buildings are often equipped with bird nets or bird spiders. Spikes on edges of common buildings are also often seen to prevent birds from sitting on the edge.

Protect Your Fruit with Fruit Nets

There are several different types of nets on the market but choosing the best net is usually a snap. If you need durable nets for several trees, one of the best options is knitted polyethylene netting.  These are UV resistant and often made of recycled plastic. They are a strong and permanent solution that can withstand a bird flying right into the net without cracking. They’re also flame and heat resistant, therefore they don’t put additional risk of fire on a building.

There are different color nets and they all have their own purpose. Nets are available in white, green, rock color and black, the latter being the most common and most popular. It doesn’t show dust and dirt and is naturally more resistant to UV light. UV vulnerable nets are prone to cracking from plain sunlight and as such are best to avoid.

It is important to choose mesh size carefully because nets with holes that are too small won’t let any light or air in, but nets with holes that are too large won’t stop smaller birds from snatching your fruit. Smaller birds can even get stuck in your netting if you choose holes that are too big. If you suspect small birds are eating up your fruits, choose 1/2 to 1″ inch mesh. If you have problems with pigeons you might want to have 2″ mesh for lower price and adequate protection.

Whichever type mesh you choose, make sure you talk to a professional before you install your netting. They will know what type of birds you have to protect against and what size mesh you need to buy.  You’ll also get some handy tips on how to install your netting in the quickest and most efficient way.
