- As much as possible, purchase the chinking and the stain from one manufacturer. You have to use compatible materials to avoid unnecessary circumstances as you go on.
- Set up a backing material; may it be a round rod or a flat bead board or anything provided by the manufacturer. It should be installed before chinking to allow the material to spread out like a band. This will let you save money and materials.
- For chinking joints that has a width greater than 1 inch, make use of a loading gun that is bulk size. For width lesser than 1 inch, make use of tubes that are quart size.
