Great outdoor floor lamps will add a lot to your deck, patio, or any other outdoor area where you plan to place them. Unlike other types of patio and deck lights, there’s no installation required and the lights are completely portable, allowing you a lot of flexibility in your lighting. You want to sit on the other end of the deck tonight? No problem, just move your deck floor lamp over to that side of your deck. These lights can be used inside as well, letting you move them in and out of your house and around your deck at will. When it comes to flexible lighting, even outdoor track lighting can’t beat using floor lamps.

Madaga Outdoor Floor Lamp
provide great light and
make a great
conversation piece!

If that weren’t enough, these lights even come in a huge variety of different shapes, sizes, and styles. You can find lamps that will match the décor inside your home, the style of your house, or you can get unique and interesting lights that could even serve as a conversation piece, like the floor lamp pictured to the right from Madaga.

Getting a cheap outdoor lamp for your home is best done by searching online for the best price. You’ll find the biggest selection of quality fixtures this way. However, there are a few things you need to look at before you buy the light including:

The Quality of the Outdoor Floor Lamp

Before you press the buy button, make sure you’re buying your light from a reputable company that’s known for its quality. It’s easy to grab any old light off the shelf that’s been marked down, but these lights will most likely end up being in tatters or even non-functional after a short time outside and you will have to replace them. Instead, try to find lights from a manufacturer that you know makes a light that will last for years to come.

Find a Lamp with a Weighted Base

Most outdoor reading lamps will have this, but still make sure that your light has a weighted base. The weighted base will make sure that the lamp won’t be knocked down after just a slight breeze. Of course if you are about to get hit with a heavy storm you will still need to move the lamp inside, but it will help to keep it in working shape throughout the year.

Make Sure Your Lamp Has a Long Power Cord

While an outside floor lamp may be portable, if you don’t actually have a long cord you still won’t be able to move it around as much as you would like to. So make sure that your light comes with a quality cord and that that cord is grounded, making sure that there won’t be an electrocution hazard from the light at any point.

Find a Lamp with Quality Shades

outside floor lamps

A quality shade can
make or break
a light.

If you want to keep your outdoor lamp looking as good as possible, it needs to have a set of quality, weather resistant shades that will resist mildew, fading, and other afflictions common to outdoor furniture. Not only should the shades be weather resistant, but they should be easily cleaned as well. This will help to keep your floor lamp looking as good three years from now as it does today.

Finally, Don’t Forget About Style!

Don’t forget about the style of your outdoor floor lamps as well. Your lamp is going to stick out on your deck or patio, so you should make sure that it fits in with the rest of your contemporary outdoor lighting. You can also choose to fit it with the style of your home or the décor that you have inside your home. So if you have nautical outdoor lighting installed on your deck, make sure you find a floor lamp that has a nautical lighting theme! As long as it matches and fits in with everything around it, it will be a great addition to your deck, patio, or other outdoor living area.

If you’re ready to get started looking for an affordable, quality outdoor floor light that you can use, save yourself some time and energy and pick up one of these fixtures from Amazon. Not only will you be buying from a reputable dealer, but they offer some of the lowest prices on the internet!

If your going to build a deck the first things you’ll need are the right carpentry tools. Using quality carpentry tools will help you out a lot. To begin with your going to need a good post hole digger to dig the holes for your support posts. When selecting a post hole digger you have to walk a fine line. You want it to be strong enough to stand the test of time but you don’t want it to be so heavy that you wear yourself out on the first hole. I would suggest a post hole digger with wooden handles.

Next, you’ll need a wheelbarrow, shovel, and hoe to mix the cement to set your posts with. Select a metal wheelbarrow with a solid rubber tire. A cheap wheelbarrow won’t last very long at all.

You will also need a good chop saw to cut your posts and decking materials. A 10″ sliding miter saw should work just fine. You might need a good hand finish saw also for any special cuts you may need to make.

I like to use either galvanized deck screws or twist nails for my deck fasteners so you’ll need a power drill or finish hammer to install them. A framing square and string line will help you keep your deck boards straight and square.

You’ll need some more carpentry hand tools to attach your deck and keep it straight. A 12″ crescent wrench for installing lag bolts and a 4′ or 6′ level will keep your deck nice and level.

You’ll want a sharp set of wood chisels to help clean up any stringer cuts for steps or notches for handrails that you need to make. I would suggest gluing down the treads for your steps so you’ll need a calking gun also.

Carpentry work is a lot easier with the right tools. Choose them carefully and building your next deck will be a breeze.

Rock-Bottom Prices for Outdoor Ceiling Fans

Whisper-quiet technology and a pewter finish means this fan makes an impact – but not for its noise!

Snow white and rated damp for adding breeze to covered patios and porches

Cloth, sail-inspired blades give a nautical feel to your outdoor areas, complete with a light!

The Roman Bronze and Teak in the fan adds a touch of class wherever you place it

If you have a patio, gazebo, or some other covered area outside your home, it can be a great place to pass a nice, cool afternoon. Unfortunately, you won’t always get what you want. Many times Mother Nature won’t cooperate and the weather will be too hot or humid to enjoy your time outside. Luckily, outdoor ceiling fans are here to rescue you from the heat and another summer spent inside. These lights can be setup in nearly any outdoor area and finding the best price for them is easy when you look online. The suggestions listed to the left are some of the best that you can find from a reputable merchant.

Buying Outdoor Ceiling Fans

You have to look for five things when you’re buying an outdoor patio ceiling fan. The first and most important thing that you need to look at is its rating. Outdoor fans are rated as either damp or wet according to how much water they can be exposed to without break. Damp fans are rated okay for outdoor use, but they can’t be exposed to direct water. They can be used in covered areas where you don’t expect them to get rained on. The more durable and popular option for most homeowners is a wet rated fan. Wet fans can be directly exposed to the rain, making them a more durable option for use outside and great for use in areas that aren’t completely covered like gazebos or an uncovered patio.

outdoor ceiling fans

The second thing that you need to pay attention to when you’re buying your fan is the actual size of the fan. Today, outdoor fans come in several different sizes. Try to find one that is proportional to the size of your outdoor area. So, if you only have a small gazebo, buy a smaller fan, but if you have a large covered patio, you are okay buying a much larger fan.

The quality of the fan and the size of the motor will also play a role in your choice of a fan. Quality brands, like hunter outdoor ceiling fans, will have a higher quality motor that will not only last longer, but will also provide more airflow to your outdoor areas, making you more comfortable when the temperature rises during the summer months.

Don’t forget to match the style of your fan to the style and color of the furniture or outdoor furniture cushions that you already have on your patio as well! By matching your fan to your patio, deck, or gazebo, it becomes an integral part of your outdoor décor. With all the different sizes, shapes, and styles on the market today, you’re sure to find an outdoor fan that you can use and will match your décor – no matter how rare it is!

Finally, the last thing that you should look for is whether the fan contains lights with it or not. An outdoor ceiling fan with lights can save you a lot of time setting up outdoor ceiling lights and other light fixtures on your deck or patio. If you already have lighting installed, having a light on your fan won’t be a big deal. But, if you haven’t installed lights already, putting one on your fan can save a great amount of time you would have otherwise spent installing outdoor chandeliers and other fixtures.

Getting a Deal on Your Indoor Outdoor Fan

Getting the best deal on your fan is much easier than you might think. By buying online, you’ll not only save time, but you’ll also save money over traditional brick and motor stores. You do, however, have to make sure that you buy from a trusted online merchant, and what better name than the biggest online marketplace? The fixtures below are some of the highest rated and bestselling fixtures from Amazon and they’re available at rock-bottom prices. Buy one of these fans today for your deck, patio, or gazebo, and you can be enjoying cool breezes on warm, summer days sooner with less time and money taken out of your pocket.

Now that summer is here, people all over the place are planning barbecues and other outdoor events.  If you are going to have guests or even just family over to your house for a meal outside, it makes a lot of sense to do some preparation to make sure you have everything you need.  While it may be true that you can just head over to one of the big box stores and pick up everything you think you need at one time, doing so without much thought will probably not look the best.

The first thing to do when planning your outdoor kitchen is to think about where it will be located.  Many people keep it close to the house because doing so allows easy access to hook up a water line for a sink and connect the electricity for appliances.  Having said that, it is completely fine to locate the outdoor kitchen farther away from the house.  You can have it next to the pool, in the garden, or anywhere else you want.  Setting it up this way may make it a bit more difficult to get power and water lines hooked up though, so keep that in mind.  In addition, think about if you need a roof overhead or not.  It can be brutally hot in many places during the summer, and having some shade can help a lot.  Another benefit of a roof over the kitchen is that it will help to protect your grill and other things.

Once you have a location picked out, the next thing you need to do is figure out which components you will need.  At the bare minimum, you will need a good barbecue grill and some counter space to prepare food.  Other things that come in very handy are bar fridges, sinks, and cabinets for storage.  While you can get by with just a grill and a spot to prepare food, it will mean that you will have to run into the house to get food from the refrigerator and clean your dirty dishes.  Having everything you need in one place is a great thing.

Would you like a backyard paradise?  Maybe you want to invite friends to enjoy a barbeque and some outdoor fun.  Possibly, you are just in the market for making your yard look beautiful to those passing by.  Whatever your motive, you might want to look into investing in some patio lanterns.

Patio lanterns come in a multitude of styles, sizes and prices.  They may add a little illumination, or brighten up the entire backyard and are an essential part of contemporary outdoor lighting.  No matter what you choose, these lights can make definitely spruce up your outdoor space.

If you have a gazebo or other outdoor patio covering, hanging patio lanterns can be a lovely addition.  However, you may choose to use a free standing lantern.  Another very pleasing patio lighting effect is lighting that sits directly on the table.  These can be quite decorative, and can even use a votive candle as its illumination. Besides candlelight, other sources of energy can be solar panels or electricity.

Patio lanterns do not have to come in the typical lamp shape that you see so often.  In fact, patio string lights are a very popular design.  This decorative string of lights can set the mood and are quite delightful for a party after dark.

Some of the most unique lights are Chinese lanterns.  These can be great around the pool, shining off the water, and making a great illusion of extra light.  It can give your backyard party an Asian theme, and can be a lot of fun.

No matter what style you choose, patio lanterns can be a fun, stylish way to bring a little light to your backyard.  They can be colorful, elaborate, modern, or even rustic, but they will make your place much more usable.  Use your lantern to add a touch of pizzazz, or simply as an accent to your already existing patio furniture.  But, whatever you do, have fun, and let your style shine!

patio lights

Using a spotlight is yet another affordable type of lighting that you can use on your patio. These lights can be a little harder to install, since many require that you hook them to the electrical circuitry in your house, but you usually only need one or two to light up your whole patio. Or, if you can deal with a little dimmer light, you can also choose to install a solar spotlight that won’t require any tricky installation. They may not be the sexiest type of lighting that you can install, but it is among the most effective. Choosing Great Deck Lights

With all the options that you have for deck lighting, it can get hard to find the fixtures that won’t just light up your deck but have it make a dramatic impression on anyone that sees it.  But, by taking it step by step the whole process gets a lot easier and more manageable.  The first thing that you have to do is draw up a floor plan of your deck.  In the plan you should highlight stairs and pathways leading to and from the deck, sitting and congregating areas like tables and bars, task areas like grills, and any nice features that you have around your deck.

A Word on Solar Deck Lights

One important decision that you will make is whether or not to install solar deck lights.  Solar powered lights have several advantages, they’re easy to install since they won’t require running wires and they won’t draw any power from your home, but just choosing solar lights will severely limit your choices of lights that you can use on your deck.  Properly running and hiding low voltage wires can be a bit of a pain depending on the lights you install, so think about using these lights for smaller special parts of your lighting system instead of the whole thing.  You’ll have better overall results with your lighting this way.

Stair Lights

Now that you’ve drawn up your plan, you need to provide lighting to the different areas that you highlighted.  Start with your outdoor step lighting.  These lights are very important to prevent trips and falls especially if you have senior citizens or young children in your house.  Stairs lights should be small and unnoticeable but they should also give you enough light to make sure that you can see the stairs safe at night.

These lights can be installed in the stairs themselves, in a block or planter to the side of the stairs, or even on posts.  Your stairs don’t have to be seen from space, just make sure to give them enough light people can see where they’re going.

Lighting Sitting and Congregating Areas

For lights around sitting and congregating areas, you have several options.  If you just have a few tables, outdoor table lamps or patio umbrella lights (don’t worry, they work on your deck too) do a great job of giving you enough light to read, eat, or play cards by.  If you want to have your lighting make more of a statement, you can use solar string lights in these areas as well.  You can use the string lights to edge around bars, tables, and railings or you can string it from ceilings or along walls.  You can find string lights for any occasion and any price range, so you’ll definitely be able to find one that will be at home on your deck.

The main focus when you are installing these lights is to create a nice, ambient atmosphere.  Provide enough light so that people can see each other’s faces, but not so much that you are attracting every moth within an ten mile radius.  LED deck lights work great for this because they are long lasting, low on energy consumption, and many don’t even attract those pesky insects.

Task Lighting

Areas that you plan on using for grilling, cooking, or even mixing drinks should usually have a little bit more light to them than congregation areas.  Depending on what you plan on doing this can be as simple as putting a single light on these areas or you could even install outdoor flood lighting.  When you install these lights, make sure to make it to a separate switch than the rest of your deck lights so that you can turn them on and off individually as you need them.

Feature Lighting

Finally, you can consider feature lighting.  Feature lighting is used to highlight features in your landscape or garden.  Features can include trees, shrubs, flowers, statues, trellises, pools, fountains, ponds, and any number of other fixtures that you want to add some flair to at night with accent lighting.  Garden spotlights work great for this type of lighting and you can aim them in almost any direction to get the effect that you want.  Try up lighting, down lighting, cross lighting, and even backlighting until you’re satisfied.

Knowing the different areas of your deck that you have to light is only part of the battle, now you actually need to find the fixtures that fit!  But don’t worry, these discounted bestselling fixtures are all a great way to start lighting up your deck, and you can even qualify for free shipping!

One of the first things that you will have to decide when you’re choosing lights for your deck is whether to use low voltage or solar deck lights.  For many, the choice is an either or, but it doesn’t have to be.  You can still use solar lights with low voltage lights.  In fact, if you choose to just use solar deck lighting or low voltage lighting, you could be seriously limiting your options to get the best lights possible – and with the least amount of aggravation installing them.

There are two main benefits to installing solar deck light fixtures.  The first is that the lights are completely green and don’t draw any power out of your home, saving you on electric bills.  While some may choose the lights because they’re green, choosing them to save on electric bills isn’t always justified.  Low voltage lighting actually doesn’t drain as much power from your house as you might think.  As long as you hook your landscape lighting transformer to a timer or switch and don’t run your lights when you’re not using them, the actual increase in your electric bills will be fairly minimal.

However, solar powered deck lights really have an installation advantage over low voltage lights when it comes to installation.  With low voltage lighting you need to run cables to each of your light fixtures, and while you don’t need to bury low voltage cables, you will need to hide them to make your deck looks its best and ensure that people don’t trip over them.  On a deck this can get tricky and you might need to drill a few holes to make sure the wires get run properly.  If you plan on installing lights in hard to reach areas, solar lights should help you be able to avoid some installation headaches.

solar deck lightsBut solar lights for decks aren’t without their downsides.  They can be more unreliable than low voltage lights.  Especially if you use them in areas with a lot of shade, they can be rather dim and even burn out before the end of the night.  For fixtures like a solar spotlight, dimmer light could make it almost useless.  Low voltage lights, on the other hand, will always be there with the flick of a switch.  You also won’t have access to as many different fixtures as you would if you installed low voltage deck lighting.  It would be a shame not to be able to decorate your deck with the best possible light fixtures just because you decided that you wanted all solar lights.

In the end, solar deck lights are a great option for some areas or your deck, but are a terrible option for other areas.  Use both solar and low voltage lights together to get the best possible fixtures for the cheapest price and the shortest installation time on your deck.

With regard to the patio design, budget and creativity are your biggest factors to consider. Sure, hiring the best landscape design team in the country will go a long way toward giving you that backyard estate model. Given the means, this is what we would all likely want. Before you can bring any of these patio concepts to life yourself, if you are the landscape team, then there are some things to consider. You can make sure that your patio ideas are well-planned by noting the ‘four S’s': soil, site, size and style.

The site in your yard will be one of the bigger factors to consider when planning out your patio. The location you choose should be such that you can avoid existing landscape features like irrigation lines or large roots from trees that will potentially lead to problems with your patio’s foundation. The site location of your patio will also be best if you are mindful of where the sun tracks in the sky relative to your yard. Different seasons and time of day affect how the angle of the sun will reach your patio.

There are both grand plans as well as little restful hideaway nooks in terms of patio plans. Size alone will not determine how much you are able to enjoy your patio. The size of your patio is no match to superior design features.

If you have any patio preferences, the next ‘S Factor’ – style – is where they will come through. It doesn’t matter whether you are more of an entertainer in terms of patio time, or have lounging dreams in mind. We affectionately refer to them as lounge lizards, those folks who dearly love their hammocks, swinging chairs or poolside chaises. For the entertainer, the patio space must appeal to the outdoor cooking and dining experiences and you must have adequate lighting to enjoy the entire experience.  There are many wonderful patio lighting ideas that you can use to get the style you want even after dark.

The soil conditions make up the final ‘S factor’. More importantly, consider whether your patio design will be supported on your soil conditions. The footers, pavers, cobblestone, stamped concrete etc. will all be resting atop your soil. The proper grading and drainage are key points to ensure that your patio design ideas can be brought to life and endure for many years.

Whether you’re planning a family reunion or your kid’s birthday party, you will be able to spend more time with the people you cherish the most by installing a great set of outdoor patio lights.  Patio lights can help to pull together all the garden lights that you have on your property and literally shed a new light on the most functional area outside your home.  Best of all, choosing and installing the same patio lighting that the pros use doesn’t have to break your budget with the price tag or your back with the installation.

Choosing the Right Outdoor Patio Lights

Choosing the right outdoor patio light fixtures is actually relatively easy, but you have a few choices that you have to make first.  The first choice with whether to use low voltage or solar lights.  There are a few pros and cons to installing each type of lighting and you’ll have to decide for yourself which is right for you.

If you choose outdoor patio solar lights, the lights are easier to install because you won’t have to worry about running any power cables across your patio.  In some installations, this might be a lifesavers because the cables can be unsightly and a constant trip hazard.  They also get their power from the sun, so they won’t be putting any extra strain on your electrical bills either.  Unfortunately, solar patio lighting isn’t as reliable as other forms of lighting, especially if you have a shady patio and they tend to be dimmer than other lights.  This makes them best for home owners that don’t want to spend much time improving their patio, ambient lighting and patios with lots of sun.

outdoor patio lights

On the other hand, low voltage lights are much more reliable and you can control when you want them on and off.  They are a little bit harder to install, but not by much, and they do draw power from your home, but again not as much as you might think.  They work for all different kinds of uses, but they’re much better than solar lights at functional lighting where you want to install brighter light and if you want a truly professional looking patio and don’t mind taking the time to install them.

Once you’ve figured out how you want to power your lights, you can choose from a wide variety of different lights fixtures to achieve the look that you want.  Here are a few of the most popular that you can choose from

  • Patio String Lights:  Use outdoor patio string lights to help set a festive mood out on your patio quickly and easily.  Whether it’s a quick setup for outdoor patio party lights or something more permanent, these lights won’t let you down.
  • Outdoor Pole Lights:  These lights are mounted up on a light pole that gives off a large circle of light.  Placing one of these around your patio can light up your stairs, grill, and any other area you choose
  • Recessed Lights:  Recessed, or well lights, can give your patio a professional touch and finish you can’t get with many other fixtures.  They’re not incredibly easy to install, but if you install them right, you can create some striking effects.
  • Lanterns:  Lanterns are another popular options for patio lighting.  They can be placed on poles or mounted on the side of your house or even railings along the patio.  Not only will they give off the light that you want, but they can also add to your patio themselves.  With styles that vary from Chinese to Victorian, you can use them to set whatever mood you want on your patio.
  • Patio Umbrella Lights and Table Lights:  Do you want a quick and easy installation that gives you light where you need it the most?  Then patio umbrella lights and outdoor table lamps are for you.  They work with no other patio lights or with an entire system of lights setup and they’ll provide the lighting that you need for reading, eating, or simply playing a family game of cards at the table.
  • Other lighting:  Don’t count out using tiki torches or candles for your lighting needs either.  They’re a bit of a pain to get lit and stay lit, but they might also contain chemicals like citronella that will keep insects of mosquitoes at bay.

Where To Go From Here

Armed with these great fixtures, there are numerous different ways that you can install a great system of patio lights on your property.  If you need some ideas check out our guide to patio lighting ideas for more information.  Make sure whatever lights that you choose fit into any landscape lights that you currently have on your property and you’re comfortable working with any wiring that you need to install them.  Unfortunately, most local home improvement stores won’t have the selection that you need to pick the absolute best lights for your home, so we recommend these best selling fixtures that you surely won’t be disappointed with.

Adding the right lighting to your patio can transform it from a dark, drab area to an enchanting area at night.  Adding the visually appealing, subtle glow of patio umbrella lights to your patio is one quick and easy way that you can get the right lighting.  Not only are these fixtures economical and easy to install, they will let you extend your time outside long after the sun goes down.  Our top picks for affordable, quality patio umbrella lighting are listed to the right.

Why Should I Install a Lighted Patio Umbrella?

Installing patio umbrella lights has a few advantages over installing other types of patio lighting.  Forst starters, it doesn’t get any easier to install these lights.  Since they’re attached to an umbrella, and in most cases solar powered, all that you need to do is put the umbrella into the table and you’re done.  Total installation time is about 35 seconds, which includes opening the box.

Patio umbrella light fixtures usually run on LED light bulbs as well.  These lights last for years and use only a fraction of the energy that normal bulbs do. But, most importantly for outdoor use, the type of light that is put out by LEDs doesn’t attract most moths or other insects, so you can enjoy your lights in peace without having to worry about attracting insects as big as a small child.

While there are great options for patio lighting other than solar umbrella lights, if you want a light that is easy to install and that still creates a great, charming atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with these lights.

Buying Patio Umbrella Lights Online

outdoor patio umbrella

There are two main components of a patio umbrella with lights that you need to look at before you buy one online.  The first is the easiest, the umbrella itself.  Try to find an umbrella either in a neutral color or in a color that matches the existing furniture on your patio.  Whites are a popular option, but they tend to get dirty, as are tans and blacks.  If you have colored furniture you can opt for an umbrella of the same color.

The next thing that you need to do is pick out the lights that you want.  If you want to at a more intimate atmosphere, try finding an umbrella with string lights mounted on the ribs of the umbrella.  This looks great and in fact you can find umbrellas like this in many restaurants and other patio areas that were professionally designed.

The other option that you have is to find an umbrella with a light disc.  These umbrellas have a disk of LED lights mounted to the pole of umbrella.  They tend to be brighter than the string lights, so they don’t work as well as mood lighting, but they work great as a replacement to outdoor table lamps for when you want to read or work on your laptop late at night.

No matter what type of solar patio umbrella that you choose you’ll end up with a patio that not only looks better, but works better for you too.  Check out some of these great fixtures I highly recommend.

Your patio area must be the best place for relaxation.  After a hard day at office or on the weekend you might want to organize a barbeque with your family and friends using the outdoor space of your patio. It doesn’t take long to realize that a patio without shade is too hot to even walk outside, let alone spend any sort of time using the area.  One option is to use solar umbrella lights, but these only cover a table and leave the rest of your patio baking in the sun.  But, if you instead install patio shades and awnings, you can cover your entire patio in shade and stay cool and dry no matter what type of weather you have.

Awning and canopies are extended structures that provide shelter from rain, sun and the wind. Such structures are attached to the buildings on the outside and serves as an additional roof. Patio sun shade awnings can be either metal, synthetic or made out of canvas, though nowadays synthetic is preferred because canvas is not resistant to mould and fungus. You can also opt for a retractable sun shade that runs on very low electricity so that you can retract the shade to enjoy the sunshine whenever you want to get a natural tan.

Buying awnings for your patio area may also seem confusing. Material of the shade is of foremost importance as it determines the durability of the awnings. Resistance to fade, flame and different weather conditions should be what you are looking for when you buy shade awnings. Style and cost matters too, so think reasonably before buying that perfect awning to shade your patio.

Shades and other forms of patio roofs are important as they add value to your home, give protection from rain, wind, UV rays and at the same time also enhances visibility. Varied colors and designs of awnings are also available in the market so you can choose the style and color to enhance the beauty of your home. So what are you waiting for? Start your search for that perfect shade for your patio and plan a party to invite all your guests to show off your new patio area.

Plenty of recreationists and sportsmen use so-called vent-free gas burning heaters to stay warm in the chilly months. Depending on how and where they are used, there may be better (and more safe) options to consider.

Many high output gas patio heaters need a circulation and an exhaust vent for proper operation. Exhaust vents help expel dangerous gases to the outside of the building or up into the attic. While this is great for safety, it’s not so great for energy efficiency. Vents allow warmed air to escape along with gases, which can certainly lead to poor energy usage.

Thanks to their design, vent-free propane heaters supposedly don’t require a dedicated exhaust or venting system. As you might expect, there are some obvious advantages to this design. First, the overall operating efficiency is increased as you won’t be heating air to only allow it to exhaust into space. Installation and maintenance of the gas heaters is also easier due to the lack of ductwork or venting.

Many ventless heaters require an electric outlet to ignite. However, you can also find models that can operate without electricity (such as the Mr. Heater Buddy Gas Heater). This makes a great fit for ice houses, cabins, tree stands, lodges and other spots where a plug may not be handy.

Sure, vent-free gas heaters sound great. However, there are a few safety concerns that prevent us from completely recommending them for all uses. Surprisingly, some vent-free heaters recommend opening a window in the room being warmed to ensure proper ventilation. Vent-free heaters suddenly seem a little less “vent-free” when you must keep a window ajar when in use.

Truth be told, vent-free heaters will still produce gases that can be dangerous in the right quantities. They are in smaller percentages than your typical propane heater, but even smaller amounts of carbon monoxide can be hazardous, as research has shown. To operate them safely, venting will still be necessary to some degree, which defeats the purpose of a vent-free heater quite a bit!

Happily, modern gas heaters typically utilize an auto-shutoff sensor that measures oxygen levels in the room (similar to common ceramic heaters). While this eases concerns a bit, I would consider taking things a step further. In addition to following all safety recommendations from the manufacturer, you should also install a carbon monoxide alarm near any running propane heater.

When it comes to warming a well-ventilated area (think drafty cabin, partially-enclosed porch, or tree stand) vent-free heaters can be worth a look. Yet, don’t completely take the promise of vent-free heating at face value. There are plenty of safety issues you should take a look at before buying.

Opting to enclose your carport will give way to the inclusion of some added features that is not possible with an open-sided carport. However, you should know that building an enclosed carport is not exactly a simple project. Unlike when constructing an open-sided carport, you will have to invest more time in planning the design of an enclosed carport. This is extremely necessary to ascertain that you will be able to convert your carport into a functional and practical space.

To those who are still quite hesitant in building an enclosed carport, the truth is, accomplishing the task is not as difficult as what you might think. You just have to be certain on how you would want the carport to look like and where you want the carport lighting to be to effectively employ whatever enclosed carport plans you have in mind. Additionally, you have to allot enough time and effort to iron out even the smallest detail of the plan to ensure that the construction process will go smoothly. Planning is always an important part of any home improvement project since this can prevent the likeliness of encountering unforeseen difficulties that might lead to costly mistakes.

It is highly advised that you sift through varying enclosed carport plans online to find the one that will suit your taste and construction requirements. These carport design plans are available in convenient downloadable templates that you can easily acquire anytime you like. After picking a suitable carport design plan, you should now begin getting the actual measurements of the area where you plan to erect the carport. This is vital to aid you in estimating the quantity of materials needed to successfully construct the carport and also to determine how long will it take for you to finish the job.

After inspecting the area and getting rough estimates of the possible expenses, you should now decide whether to carry on with the project on your own or hire the services of professional contractors. Of course, your decision will greatly depend on the extent of work that needs to be done as well as your working budget. If you have enough money to spare, it is best to leave the job to the hands of the professional to ensure quality work.

A very effective way of selling your deck designs to a potential client is to display vivid pictures of their desired or dream deck. 3D deck design software meets this requirement perfectly by producing full-color 3D images that can be viewed from various positions and angles. There are many different powerful and multifaceted decking design software products available for sale or free in the market today. With the aid of such programs, users can easily and quickly design realistic images of decks, landscape, and even pools.

Although there are various fields in which 3D deck design software is used, the field of home deck designs is the most popular. Deck designs software offers the average consumer the ability to create designs that would otherwise require a professional to draft up which can be quite costly.  You can now design your own deck from scratch or with the assistance of a template.  Decks can be standalone structures or extensions of your home. Decks can also surround a pool or hot tub area. When using a pre-defined template in the software program, you can take away and add whatever characteristics you prefer.  The programs differ but most offer colorful realistic images, a supply list, and price estimation.

Each person has certain ideas they wish to implement in a design, for this reason, the programs offer many innovative options and the ability to easily navigate or incorporate the aspects you feel are important. Various components are meticulously represented in the image, and a person is informed beforehand if any of the components does not fit appropriately within the overall design of the structure. Landscape and home design software occasionally do restrict the shape and size of structures that can be created or designed.

A potential software buyer must ensure that the program chosen is capable being expanded. Professional software provides greater leverage in certain areas but it may not be necessary even if you plan on using such software for your deck or landscape business.  You will have to ensure that the program does offer vivid images, supply lists, price estimates, and invoices which are ideal and more effective especially when it comes to making a good impression to potential customers.

Do you have a patio that you would like to add some light fixtures to but you don’t have the time, money or energy to install an expensive system? Well, never fear because with a solar patio umbrella you can add functional and accent light to your patio, regardless of how big or small it is in an instant! These solar patio lights are attached to the bottom of an umbrella and powered by solar panels, which means that you won’t have any wires to run or even any light fixtures to mount. All that’s required is that you stick the umbrella in the hole in your table the way you normally would! It’s a lazy home improvement enthusiast’s dream!

Solar Patio Umbrella Basics

Essentially, solar patio umbrella lights are lights that are attached to the underside of an umbrella and powered via a solar panel that is attached to the top of the umbrella. They come in two different forms, vein-mounted and post mounted. Vein-mounted lights consist of very small LEDs in a string that are mounted to the top of the umbrella, while post mounted lights are usually a disc containing several LEDs that attaches to the umbrella’s post.

The way the umbrellas are made makes them easy to install, useful, and incredibly functional. Not only do you get shade during the day, but at night you’ll be able to sit and relax under the umbrella while the lights from above you give you the light you need to read, eat dinner, or just enjoy the nice weather. Since the lights are mounted on the umbrella itself as well, you won’t have to worry about any lights on the table itself getting in your way either. It’s the prefect type of light, right where you need it.

Finding a Patio Umbrella with Solar Lights

When you’re looking for your solar lighted patio umbrella, keep in mind what you want to use it for. Are you planning on reading under it, in which case you will need a lot of light, or do you simply want to add a little bit of accent lighting to your patio? If you need a lot of light to accomplish a task, a post-mounted umbrella light will most likely be right for you. The disc provides a huge circle of light that you can use. Make sure you pay attention to how many LEDs are in the disc itself. The more LEDs, the brighter the light will be.

If you’re more interested in adding some accent lighting to your patio, vein-mounted solar umbrella lights are a good option. These lights are softer than the post mounted variety and have a more decorative look and feel to them. They work great with parties and other get-togethers.

No matter what size, shape, or type of patio you have, as long as you have a table, you can use a solar powered patio umbrella. They are the ideal type of solar patio lighting – easy to install and maintain and always there when you need it. Start looking for some that you can place on your property today.

If you’re lighting your deck or patio, you no doubt want to create a unique, festive atmosphere.  One way to do this is to install nautical outdoor lighting.  The more expensive versions of these lights are made from brass and are actually salvages from decommissioned or wrecked ships.  However, there are lights that are made of cheaper materials and are replicas of these lights that are affordable and in the price range of nearly every homeowner for their outdoor deck lighting.

What are Nautical Outdoor Lighting Fixtures?

Nautical outdoor lights are generally lights either were used on ships, lighthouses, or docks prior to use in your home or they are replicas of these lights.  They are usually simple in design and made to resist the harsh conditions of the sea.  Older models are made from stainless steel, bronze, and frosted glass, but newer replicas can be made out of aluminum as well.  There are light from many different eras and made of several different types of materials as well.  So, you don’t just have to use the light fixtures replicated from early American schooners and ships.  You also have the choice of using lights from several different eras.

Installing Nautical Outdoor Light On Your Deck or Patio

You have many different options for nautical outdoor light fixtures that you can install on your deck or patio.  First and foremost, make sure that the light fixtures that you are choosing are rated for use outside since so many are replicas and may simply be only rated for indoor use.  Using these lights outdoor can create a huge shock hazard.

But, once you’ve figured this out, you’re free to create an amazing nautically themed outdoor deck or patio.  The light fixtures are a great start, but don’t stop at just focusing on outdoor lighting design.  Look at other design elements that you can incorporate into it.  There are many nautical décor items that you can choose from to create the atmosphere that you want, from life preservers to clocks to compasses.  Just make sure that you match the styles of your décor and light fixtures together.  Otherwise, if you mix lighting from a schooner with décor from a more recent ship, you really will just create a confusing feeling instead of an amazing atmosphere.

Nautical outdoor lighting can create an amazing atmosphere on your deck or patio or really any room of your house. They can even just make a great addition to your existing deck or outdoor patio lighting.  You have a lot of different light fixtures to choose from, so make sure that you match styles and time periods to create a cohesive atmosphere.
