Everyone loves trees, shrubs and flowers. They really can brighten up what normally would be a dull and boring space. When looking out of your window, what you would you prefer to see – a big concrete slab or a beautiful tree in full leaf? Hopefully the latter. Trees not only look great during the day, but they make great focus points for garden lights and can shine at night as well. The problem is that you need to know how to care for the trees in your garden to make sure they stay looking great and healthy.
Trees can actually can cause a lot of damage to you and your property if you aren’t careful. The roots can cause problems with the foundation of your home. The branches can fall off and hit you. In a storm a tree can fall over and hit your home or your car.
Sometimes a tree can end up causing so much trouble that you have to have it cut down. It might even have blown over so you have no choice but to have it removed. This can be painful emotionally because people can become attached to the trees in their garden.
If you have a big old tree go and have a look at it to see what condition it’s in. If it has any very big branches you need to be aware that the branches could break off at any moment so you might want to get them cut off to prevent any accident from occurring. A tree surgeon is better equipped to do a job like this however if you are confident you can cut the branch off yourself.

If you can see holes in the tree they might have been made by woodpeckers. These birds are normally attracted to trees that are decaying so it can be a sign that your tree is in bad health. You can also look out for any fungus growing because that’s also a sign of decay.
A tree may look really beautiful but it can be a danger so be vigilant. If you see any problems with it then you should call a tree surgeon. Also make sure you understand how to how to remove a tree stump and roots because if the tree does need to be removed, you will want to be able to plant something else in its place. It’s more difficult to do this if there is a great big tree stump in the way.
