Outdoor patio lighting is a great way of adding some excitement to your garden when the sun sets. Many people don’t use their garden at night and it is shame – warm summer evenings are a great time to observe and enjoy some of the nocturnal wildlife that you would not see it any other time of the day. Obviously nocturnal and garden lights are not two words if you’d usually used in a sentence together. Using outside lighting does need to be considered, as to brighter lighting will contribute to light pollution and actually deter the wildlife from visiting your garden.
I believe that there is a fine balance to strike between having some usable lighting and lighting that doesn’t scare off any night time creatures. In my opinion the best form of patio lighting is powered by the sun. There are number of reasons for me recommending solar powered patio lights; firstly you do not need to run any cables to the lights so that you can be somewhat creative as to where you position them. Secondly they are cheap to run and use only the power of the sun which is not only good on your wallet but also good for the environment. The third and final point is that the light they produce is not too bright to scare off any bats or hedgehogs but the light given out is good enough to be at the sit and talk to friends and family after dark.
Patio lights come in various forms and you are well advised to choose a type that is suitable for your family or home. Post types lights for example are not great if you have young children or boisterous dogs, that is of course unless you are prepared to concrete them into the ground. The post type lights are easily knocked over so should be avoided. If you don’t have any dogs were children to think about then placed lights are the ideal solution as they tend to focus the light down the ground. If you don’t think you can get away with using post-lights then perhaps have a look at some rock lights or some lights that are embedded in the ground that shine upwards. Other types of like you could look at our solar powered string lights which look great hanging from a pergola. Myhomedepo.com has lots more information about lighting for the home and garden.
